Handmade Wooden Fly Boxes
HANDMADE WOODEN FLY BOXES OF LIGHT WEIGHT ELMROOT AND BIRCH BURL BY LARS ANDERSSON OF SWEDEN~ ~"Lars is a third generation carpenter and his work at the large estate produces different tasks and challenges every day. He does everything from mending a 15th century chair to making a brand new door to suit the style of the other buildings. The first time I handled a Flybox made by Lars I found it to be a thing of beauty with its classic Wheatley style, with the smoothly rounded corners. Very pleasing, like all boxes made from a living material, but I suspected it would be too fragile to use and probably sensitive to water, since it was made of wood veneer. I still use that box regularly, unlike some of the role model boxes, who are hard to keep closed when they get old and worn. Lars makes all the hinges and locks for the boxes himself, from stainless materials. The wood veneer is glued with waterproof polyurethane glue, which he says is the best, and he seems to know what he is doing. Lars has no secrets when it comes to his craft, not how he does it or what material he uses. He is a very generous man that helps with tips and tricks for anyone that want to give it a try for themselves." ~ ~ Thommy Gustavasson
